Nicky Delgado DJ Biography:
In the 21st century, where substance and style rarely mesh with innovation and individuality, there are still those disc jockeys and
producers, who are striving to push the envelope of sound further. Attempting to make their imprint onto a community that is as time
sensitive as the people who are part of it, there has never been a better time for that individuality to begin laying new groundwork
for the sonic highways to be explored. Nicky Delgado, formerly Nicky Miago is taking charge of the revolution. His cris-crossing across
the Americas and the UK has taken his music and his message to dancefloors thirsty to move forward, not backwards. Delgado is renown as
a progressive heavyweight, letting the tribal influence of beats help move him forward and ahead of what time has dictated as current.
Delgado’s vision originated in Edmonton, Alberta, where in the early 90’s he was given a chance to experience the emotional depth of
dance music at Flashbacks. It was at Western Canada’s definitive underground dance bar that he began to learn how to weave the sonic
tapestry that would take listeners on a different journey, unsuspected every time. He channeled his passion into buying records from
the club’s record shop, and set out to blaze his own trail in his hometown. His hard work and practice paid off as his vision began to
be recognized via numerous local residencies in the clubs. This not only solidified the foundation of an individual style that was the
result of intense audience study, but an awareness of the crowd’s emotional desires and wants. His legendary 5 hour sets would not only
continue to take its listeners on the intense emotional journey that he’d experienced himself, his sets also catered to those whose
minds and hearts were open to a sound that he’d embraced. While dj culture was beginning to become a household term, he’d set himself
apart from the pack through consistent evolution, taking the progressive house and trance style that he’d taken on as his own and
bringing it to the Western Canadian masses. In his journeys between Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and surrounding areas, his style struck
a chord with people. At Summerlove in 1999 and 2000, over 12,000 people each year stayed to hear Delgado’s vision. His sets marked the
pinnacle of B.C.’s essential summer festival.
His sonic culinary skills would not be the only thing that he’s become notorious for. In addition to being Western Canada’s most in
demand jocks, he also poured his love and passion into the promotional part of the culture through many different partnerships. He was
also founder of Nexus Tribe, at the time one of Canada’s most influential collectives. By raising the standard of events through massive
production and stellar international talent, Edmonton and Western Canada was given a window to the world and a rare slice of party
culture that the west was seemingly lacking. Nexus Tribe was responsible for the Northern Lights dance festival in 2000, which saw
Delgado share the decks with prog. house godfathers Sasha and John Digweed. During this time Nexus Tribe also hosted numerous other
events including the annual Nexus Gatherings as well as the Viva Las Vegas parties, all well attended by massive crowds. Delgado
would also share the turntables with Tiesto, Timo Maas, Union Jack, Ritchie Hawtin, Chris For tier, Steve Lawler, Jimmy Van M,
Doc Martin, Anthony Pappa, Dj Rap and DJ Dan amongst many others. And while he also worked with Extra Large, another local Edmonton
company, and Calgary’s Goodfellas, he knew that he still needed to push the envelope further...
In fall 2001 Delgado moved to Vancouver, BC where he began to quench his hunger to create his own music. Taking a step down from the
spotlight, he was able to transfer his skills behind the decks and begin weaving the magic that he could call his own. He explained
“My choice to move to Vancouver was to concentrate on my producing and writing” After attending Columbia Academy to learn about the
art of mixing and the music industry, this says it given him a “prospective view and approach to writing my music.” His hard work is
beginning to pay off, as he has planned to release his own collaborations with two female vocalists Ingrid Hakansin and Aly Young.
He’s also in the process of creating top-notch mayhem with tech house genius Tyler Lewis for future release on some of the world’s most
renowned house labels. Tracks like “Dangerbay”, “Nobody”, “I Feel You” and “Krew” are ready for dancefloor consumption while South
American DJ legend Hernan Cattaneo, has given Delgado’s studio work the ultimate blessing by including “I Spot The Munky” on his chart
for July 2004 and his radio mix in August 2004. However his love for the studio and the music he creates has not diminished his love
for the crowd. While in Vancouver, he’s been able to successfully help shape and nurture the pr ogressive sound there. Alongside his
former Progressive Entertainment collective, he’s established Volume, Vancouver’s first and only underground prog/house/tribal night at
the Lotus Sound Lounge. The night has taken off so well that it was moved from it’s inaugural Thursdays, to Friday nights, making it
one of Canada's most fundamental club nights. The music and the message also were briefly showcased by Delgado at Gorgomish, Vancouver’s
first legal after hours club for the latter part of 2003 and mid 2004. If that wasn’t enough Delgado’s boundaries have extended further
across Canada as he opened for legends Nick Warren and Dave Seaman on the RedSeat.ca (DuMaurier) nightclub series. This also has led
him to play alongside Seaman and Infusion at Montreal’s standard setting and unparalleled club experience, Stereo. He’s also
played extensively across the UK and South America, making him to be steadily in demand in these places where the sounds are as
progressive as it’s peoples. He’s also received the prestigious honor of being one of forty members of the Balance Record Pool,
catering to some of the biggest DJs in North America including Danny Tenaglia and Sandra Collins.
While the future is as bright as the sounds that are created for that future, Nicky Delgado has cemented his reputation in dance
history not only as a pioneer, but also as an innovator of the sounds and scene which he truly loves. Get ready, the next evolution
begins here...
