Hatiras DJ Biography:
Hatiras is one of today’s most accomplished and in-demand house music artists. His many roles include DJ, producer, remixer, label owner
and promoter.
Hatiras started out as a party promoter in the early 1990’s. His company, Liquid Adrenaline grew into one of North America’s
largest promotion companies with a solid reputation for quality underground music, innovative flyers and top notch production.
With over 40 distinct events across North America in arenas, boat cruises, hotel suites, warehouses and night-clubs, Hatiras’ events
averaged 5,000 patrons and peaked at over 10,000.
Following his role as a promoter Hatiras began producing music for the masses attending his events. He pioneered a new sound that
fused the funk of disco with the driving beats and sense of anticipation the rave and club scene demanded. In 1998 he signed to
Bad Boy Bill’s Chicago based International House Records (IHR). His IHR debut, ‘Liquid Adrenaline Session 1’ was an instant success.
The record featured a track called ‘Digital Doom’ which received heavy support from top European DJs like Carl Cox, Danny Rampling and
others. His subsequent releases continued to gain momentum however it wasn’t until his third release, in 2001, that the world got to
know Hatiras.
The record featured the massive worldwide hit ‘Spaced Invader’. The song received praise from every top DJ including Pete Tong,
Darren Emerson, The Chemical Brothers, Danny Tenaglia, Erick Morillo, Groove Armada and Roger Sanchez to name a few. Spaced Invader was
re-released by the UK’s premier house label Defected, Australia’s Ministry of Sound, Canada’s Universal Music and Mexico’s BMG.
The music video and song topped shows and charts across the world including the UK’s infamous BBC Radio One. The song, which featured
the vocal talents of Basement Jaxx’s ragga rapper Slarta John, was also remixed by some of the top names in electronic music
(including Darren Emerson, Olav Basoski, Ian Pooley, J-Majik, King Unique, High Contrast and more). The original version set off a
whole slew of copycat tracks and bootlegs, while the J-Majik drum and bass version is said to be one of the pioneering tracks in what
became a new disco influenced genre of drum and bass. By 2002, ‘Spaced Invader’ had earned Hatiras a prestigious Canadian Juno Award
(the equivalent of an American Grammy) for best dance song, and a SOCAN award for most radio play by a dance artist.
As a remixer Hatiras has been recruited to rework music by Kylie Minogue, Loleatta Holloway, Kevin Irving, Junior Jack,
Ministers De La Funk (Eric Morillo, Jose Nunez and Harry “Choo Choo” Romero), Tom Novy, Olav Basoski, Carole Pope and The Bomfunk MCs to
name a few. His zany remixes have been featured on many of the biggest labels in the dance music world including IHR, Azuli, Defected,
Manifesto, Ministry of Sound, Parlophone, V2 and Sony.
Besides his chart-topping productions, Hatiras’ DJ career has sent him on tour across Canada, USA, Europe, Australia and South America.
He has been featured in the publications Mixmag, 7, DJ, Face, Jockey Slut, M8, Ministry, Loud, Move-X and Klublife. He has also appeared
and performed on countless radio and television shows including The UK’s Pepsi Chart Show, BBC Radio One, Kiss FM;
Canada’s Electric Circus, Much Music, Musique Plus, La Bouge, Global Groove, CBC Galaxie Radio; and a variety of shows spanning through
Mexico, Colombia, USA, Belgium, Australia and beyond.
His highly anticipated debut artist album ‘Arrival’ was released in 2002. It included a collaboration with Chicago’s Bad Boy Bill and
Delano, and remixes by techno godfather Joey Beltram, Germany’s Patrick Alavi, and the UK’s Total Science. ‘Arrival’ received strong
reviews, excellent sales and total support from the global dance community. ‘Arrival’ quickly bolstered Hatiras’ reputation as one of
the leading producers in house music and distinguished him as one of the few DJs that have come up with a solid and highly appraised
album in such a singles driven market.
Following the release of his album Hatiras initiated a compilation series called ‘Electronic Luv’. The first volume, which was released
in 2003, incorporates the feel of a Hatiras DJ set by combining his original productions and remixes with some of his hot tracks of the
moment. The CD was received with great reviews and strong sales as one of the top selling electronic projects in Canada through 2003.
The follow up ‘Electronic Luv Too’ was released in the 2004 and is currently outpacing its predecessor with strong sales worldwide.
Building on all of his success and understanding of the music industry, Hatiras launched his own record label, Blow Media in 2004.
With over a year dedicated to planning the label launch, and a philosophy to provide only the highest quality cutting-edge music, artwork
and packaging, Blow Media has already established itself as one of the world’s premiere underground labels.
Charging out of the gate, the debut Blow Media release, Hatiras’ ‘Hit N’ Run EP’ featured the hit track ‘Money Shot’ which has been
licensed to numerous compilations mixed by top international DJs, and re-released with new mixes including a reworking by France’s
Antoine Clamaran. In its first week of release Hatiras’ ‘Money Shot’ sold 10,000 units worldwide with Blow Media frantic to keep up
with demands for the release. With a steady stream of smash releases since then, Blow Media continues to blaze along.
Besides his solo career, Hatiras has been collaborating with the talented musician and vocalist Jaxon to form the duo known as Hatjak.
Their debut releases, ‘It Was’ and ‘Searchin’ are introducing a crazy new style of synth and guitar driven songs. Initial sales figures
and critical response has already been enormous. As well, their live shows, which incorporate off-the-wall stage antics and live
elements with the art of DJing have left crowds buzzing.
Besides his solo productions and collaborations, Hatiras is also utilizing the Blow Media vehicle to nurture and develop other talented
artists to their full potential. These new additions to the Blow Media family include talented producers Boza and Macca, vocalist
Shanchoy and others.
Along with his constant touring, productions, remixes, his role in Blow Media, Hatjak, and his mission as one of the driving forces
behind electronic music, Hatiras is always looking for a way to break the rules and do things differently. Not satisfied with following
the common path, Hatiras is destined to continue to tread new ground and make even larger marks in the future.
